Visiting our practice - professional and relaxed: from the car park to your individual care

Visiting our practice | Orthodontists | Shepparton

Your first visit to our practice

You will be greeted by our Treatment Co-ordinator, who will ensure we have all the information we need to assess your individual case.  You can expect this consultation to take about an hour.

In order to thoroughly decide what would be best for you and your teeth we need to look closely at your face shape, teeth, and your growth.
Some of the things we look at:

  • Photographs – digital photographs of your face and teeth are taken to assess how your teeth and bite are before treatment begins.  These photos help the orthodontist plan your treatment and monitor treatment changes.
  • Radiographs or "x-rays" are taken to see what teeth are present; to assess your face shape and growth potential. We can also assess teeth that are still in the bone and if there are any underlying problems with the teeth or surrounding bone.

Planning your treatment

After we have all the information we need we will formulate a plan that we believe will suit your treatment needs.
We will then discuss the cost and the estimated time of treatment and when it should commence.

Sometimes best treatment may be to let nature take its course and wait until you are older.

Orthodontic treatment needs clean and healthy teeth for best results. It is important that you see your general dentist before starting treatment. Any decay present before orthodontic treatment starts may get worse after braces are on, as it is more difficult for your dentist to see it and more challenging for you to clean

Records appointment

Our friendly dental auxiliaries will take impressions of your mouth to have a record of your teeth and bite before we start straightening them.

We use a special scanner to digitize your impression and link it to your patient file.

Starting treatment

Separators are tiny blue elastic rings that are flossed between the molar teeth at this appointment.  It feels like you have food stuck between your teeth! Their important job is to gently push the teeth apart to make a small space for the orthodontic band to slide on more easily.
It is important to take care of the separators so they stay in place until the banding appointment. Please avoid sticky food and brush your teeth carefully.

Your teeth may be a bit sore after the separators are placed. Try a normal pain reliever and this should settle down.

Choose our specialist orthodontists to expertly care for your individual smile.
