There are very few orthodontic problems that require urgent attention. If in pain, please call the practice (03) 5831 1282.
Prevention is the best cure. Follow our dietary guidelines outlined in your Smile Care Kit. Please observe instructions as to the correct foods to eat. Resist the temptation to eat lollies and hard foods.

Common Problems:

1. Soreness - your teeth may be sore for up to 4-5 days after you have your braces placed and after each appointment. If this occurs, you can have whatever pain reliever you would normally have for a headache to help.
2. Ulcers - can form from brackets/wire rubbing on cheeks and lips. If this occurs, use wax on affected area and warm salt water mouth rinses twice a day. If there is no improvement in a couple of days, please call the office to arrange an emergency appointment.
3. Wire Poke - when teeth are aligning, the wire can poke into the cheeks and lips. If this happens, use the wax and phone the office to schedule an emergency appointment.
4. Broken Bracket/Wire - find out where the bracket is broken; phone the office to schedule an appointment to have it rebonded.
